Although a lot of babies are born every day, majority of the world’s population is getting older and older by the day. These old people have families who are busy and who have their own lives to live. They will not be able to care for their old parents and relatives. These old people will require medical care and someone to look after them when they can no longer do so by themselves. Most old people almost always get sick so they will also need medical attention. These are just some of the things which make nursing assistants jobs one of the most sought after today. A lot of people are now enrolling in CNA online classes, as well as in their local community colleges in order to finish the CNA training program and get CNA certification.

What is CNA Certification?

After completing hours of lecture and hands-on practice, students enrolled in CNA programs are required to take an exam in order for them to become fully certified. There is a written exam and a practical exam. The written exam includes questions about patient care, record keeping and other skills require for people who want to work as CNAs. The practical exam, on the other hand, asks examinees to demonstrate their abilities in various patient care procedures like positioning patients on their beds properly and taking their temperature the right way.

How to Prepare for CNA Certification

You have finished the short training program and now you are ready to take the next step, and that is to get certified so you can finally earn money by working as a CNA. To get certified, CNA graduates have to take two exams, a written exam and a practical exam. So how do you prepare for these exams?

The written exam consists of a multiple choice test. You’ll increase your chances of passing the exam if you prepare for it. You will need a little discipline and practice but the rewards you will reap will more than worth it. You will become a certified nursing assistant and you will earn money.

It is best that you revisit the materials you have worked with during your training. You should set aside enough time for you to read the materials and understand them. You can set aside 1-2 hours every day to study. Review patient care, procedures and responsibilities. You can even ask for the help of your family members and friends. You can ask them to help quiz you on important topics. Mnemonics can also be very helpful because they it solidifies the information in your head.

Taking timed tests might also be a very big help. This can help measure how prepared you are and it will gauge how well you perform in the actual test. There are lots of review tests and sample examination questions available on the internet today. You can also go to the library and borrow CAN preparation test books.  Determine what your weak points are and dedicate more time to study and master them. This will increase your chances of passing the test.

Practice your skills. If you feel like you really did not absorb or understand the lesson well, you can ask your instructors for extra time in the lab. Most instructors will actually allow this. They want their students to pass the exam and get certified too. You can also practice with a classmate. This is actually better than practicing by yourself. You can give each other constructive criticism. You can observe how you each work and correct each other when necessary. You can also practice the skills taught in school inside your home. For example, you can easily practice making the bed at home.
