There is a great demand for nurses and nursing aides today. The population is growing old by the minute and more old people need medical care and assistance. A lot of schools are now offering CNA training to fill this void and a lot of people are now also enrolling in CNA classes not just in the United States but in other parts of the world. If you have already finished your CNA training programs, what are the other things you need to do in order to get employed? Here is a little help for you.

The Department of Labor has projected an increase of CNA jobs of about 19% by the year 2018. This is a rate which is higher than average. There are numerous training facilities everywhere which offer CNA training classes. Some of these are community colleges, hospitals and there are also online classes. Even the Red Cross offers free training for aspiring CNAs. A typical course lasts as long as 12 weeks. Some institutions require applicants to have a high school diploma or GED while others do not.

After the CAN training

After completing the CAN training, one must also undergo at least 75 hours of training. After the training, a certification exam also needs to be passed to get a license. Certifications must be applied for in the state where you wish to work.

Aside from training requirements, medical facilities also have health requirements for applicants. CNAs must be in good health because their work involves helping patients, feeding them, bathing them and transporting them for their bed to their wheelchairs. Tuberculosis skin tests are administered to applicants and they are also tested for other things.

Requirements vary from one state to another but almost all require a criminal background check. Medical facilities favor applicants with no criminal records. Having a CPR license is also a great advantage. CNAs need to apply for recertification every few years so that they can continue to work. For CNAS who left the field and would like to go back to working as CNAs again, they will have to retake the exam to get certification, but this depends on how long their certificates have lapsed.

How to Look For a CNA Job

Most hospitals and medical facilities favor CNAs who have extensive experience because they have the knowledge and they already know what to do. Although this does not apply to everyone, most fresh graduates are often at a loss and are not confident when it comes to performing their duties. However, fresh graduates still have a very good chance of landing a job and keeping that job. Before you land a job, you need to look for one first.

Visit the career center of the school where you took your course. Most schools have a program which aims to help their students find a job. They will be able to let you know which hospital or medical facility is hiring a CNA.

Ask your friends who are nurses or friends who work in hospitals. They might just be able to find you an open position as a nursing aide in their respective departments. Nurses also have contact with their fellow nurses who work in other departments. They will ask their nurse friends too so your chances of getting a job is increased.

You can also use the Internet to check if there are local facilities which are looking for nursing aides. Read local publications too. Most hospitals advertise if they need additional staff.

Do not be afraid your visit your local nursing homes and hospitals. There are times when they do not publicly advertise open positions. You can inquire if they have any open position and if they do, apply.

If you know how to look for a job, you’ll increase your chances of landing one and then you can enjoy the perks of getting a CNA salary.
