Before new hires start their jobs as CNAs, they are given an orientation by the supervisors and or the managers. This aims to acquaint new hires with the people they will be working with, the facilities and the patients they will be taking care of. Experienced employees will give you information and it would be best to take down notes rather than strain to memorize everything in your head.
Once you are ready to handle groups of patients on your own is when things become a little more interesting. Most adult care facilities use an assignment sheet which contains patients’ information such as their diagnosis, meals and other important things. Make sure to follow everything on the sheet. Familiarize yourself with it. This will help you get to know the patients better and their needs. You will be able to identify who needs the most exercise and who have appointments with their physicians.
Always prepare our materials like your cart and hamper. Have them ready at all times. Fill it with everything which is needed. You never know when a fresh change of blankets or linens is necessary.

Distributing meals is one of the most important things nursing aides do. You need to do this with great care. You will be feeding patients, as well as collect and record their food and fluids.
When going to your place of work, you need to be presentable and clean. How can patients trust you with their care when you cannot even care for yourself. Take a shower, wear clean clothes and always arrive on time. Employees who are late do not keep their jobs. In fact, they almost often get fired. Show your superiors that you are terrific at what you do and show your patients that you provide them with the best care possible. Sometimes this does not only man caring for them physically, this also means listening to the things they have to say.
You have to be there for your patients emotionally too because most of these patients seldom get to visits and they seldom see their families. However, you have to remember to always be professional. You have to separate your personal life from your work. You can be caring and still be professional. You can be a friend who can lend them an ear when they need it and still be a nursing aide at the same time.
If you show your employers that you value your job by doing a very good job, they should see how much you love your job and how deserving you are of that job. If you strive to be the best nursing aide in the facility, your employer will value you for it and will let you keep that job so that you can continue to enjoy the best things about being employed.
